The James Montgomery Animal Wellness Center is dedicated to a man who went above and beyond for each person he encountered. Everyone who knew or even heard of Mr. Mont knows he left a legacy that will impact the lives of generations to come. This is exactly what we envision for the wellness center; a facility that positively impacts the lives of each companion animal that walks through its doors. We envision this as a place our facility animals will be treated by our dedicated clinic team and eventually adopted through our adoption center.

This will also be a place where constituents in Columbia and surrounding counties can come to seek expert veterinary care at a low cost or adopt one of our many available companions. This facility is made possible by generous donations from families across our community and we are still looking for help raising final funds. Perhaps your family would like to honor a loved one or the family pet.  We have many sponsorship opportunities, from entire rooms to individual kennels. Contact us today to leave your lasting legacy on this impactful facility.

The LCHS Dog Park is coming to our campus in the first quarter of 2021. Staff are working diligently to prepare this pawesome location for our community to enjoy for years to come.

The dog park will feature a large and small dog park, each separate with their own water features, washing stations and double gate entry system. There will also be walking trails, a memorial area to picnic and a training facility.

Plans are still developing as we work to create the best fit for our campus and community.  Updates will be posted here so make sure to check back for updated information.

Buildings 1-3 Remodel

We have needed this remodel for so long and are so excited to have it on the horizon. The addition of the Mr. Mont Building will allow us to slowly begin remodeling our existing buildings. Stay tuned for more updates!

60 Dog Kennels & 30 Cat Kennels Expansion

Public Shelters are always in need of more space and once our buildings have been remodeled, we will begin working towards this expansion. With refreshed buildings and more space, we will be better equipped to serve our community.

About Us

Lake City Humane Society, a private nonprofit organization, was formed in late 1964 to address animal welfare issues in our community. There was no animal shelter, and little attention was paid to the hundreds, if not thousands of animals that were picked up off the streets and killed if no one came to claim them. One city employee – the “dog catcher” was hired to catch and dispose of stray and unclaimed dogs in our area.
